Campaign for a Better Warsaw

Following my recent blogpost on the view of Warsaw from Praga, I was thinking last night about some new monuments and initiatives to encourage more visitors to Warsaw. Here are some of the suggestions off the top of my head, some a little more feasible/reasonable than others but all technically possible. I'd welcome other ideas, criticism or suggestions, which we can work into a manifesto before presenting our demands to Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz

·         In front of Pałac Kultury – an enormous crowned eagle with wings that lift spectators into the air to take in the view around Warsaw.

·         By the riverfront – a riverside walkway to be built from Most Swiętokrzyski then circling up to Stare Miasto.

·         “Walksaw”... a new walking initiative to encourage tourists to explore Warsaw more widely. Network of directional maps across the centre of the city and multi-coloured arrow system on the pavements to guide them.

·         Better Information points at the rabbit warren outside the Centrum Metro Przystanek. Immediate deportation to anywhere for the man who stands outside banging on chairs all day (for lack of imagination).

·         Plac Konstytucji – a giant mermaid statue with her tail-fin acting as a giant slide for children.

·         A super-sized babcia statue on Plac Mirowska as a memorial to thrift. Artist should emphasise sharp elbows and sloped brown beret.

·         Pedestrianisation of the bottom half of Marszalkowska to encourage increased foot-fall on that street.

Update: Suggestion from Mr Gee Em to, "build a precinct above the river on the Western side with piered construction So there are river views, but above rather than across the water. The next step would be to make the river more "functional" for the population maybe with ferries up and down from North bridge with multiple stops to say New town, Old town and down to lazienkowski"
