    I've never understand - why exactly this is bad style.

    This rule (to not wear socks with sandals) seems completely arbitrary to me.

    But well - as a good citizen I don't want to cause disgust so I obey.

    I'll be honest, I am not sure either. But it's noteworthy in that no-one does it "in the west"
